The Cost of Solar PV Systems in Kenya

Cost of Solar PV Systems in Kenya

Do you want to switch from Grid to Solar PV systems but are wondering what the Cost of Solar PV Systems in Kenya is?

Solar PV Systems are designed depending on the needs of the user. This will determine the components to used and ultimately the cost of the system.

For example, a solar water pump system does not require battery banks for storage and is cheaper compared to a home system that requires storage.

Planning a Solar PV System

When planning a solar PV system, we need to design the following;

1. Figure out how much power you need.
2. Calculate the number of batteries you need.
3. Calculate the number of solar panels needed.
4. Select a charge controller and inverter.
5. Balance of system (Fuses, breakers, breaker boxes, mounting, wires…)

With a good design of the above, It will be easy to come up with the cost of a Solar Photo Voltaic System.

Typical Costs

1. Simple home system (Fridge, TV & Lights): Kshs 150,000
2. 4 Panels With Storage: From Kshs 300,000
3. 5 Panels With Storage: From Kshs 500,000
4. 10 Panels With Storage: From Kshs 800,000

  • Solar Batteries Only: Starting at Ksh 39,000
  • Solar Panels Only (360 Watts): Starting at Ksh 19,999

We also do Domestic and Commercial Facility Energy Audit Starting at Ksh 5,000

The Danger of Electric Shock and First Aid

The danger of electrical shock depends upon the type of current, just how high the voltage is, and how the current traveled through the physical body, the person’s overall wellness, and exactly how quickly the individual is helped.

Call for help or your regional emergency number immediately if any of these indications or signs and symptoms occur:

  • Cardiac arrest
  • Heart rhythm problems (arrhythmias)
  • Respiratory failure
  • Muscle pain and contractions
  • Burns
  • Seizures
  • Numbness and tingling
  • Unconsciousness
  • Look First. Do not touch. The person might still touch as a result of the electrical source. Touching the person could pass the current via you.
  • Switch off the source of electricity, preferably. Otherwise, move the source away from you and/or the individual, making use of a dry, nonconducting item constructed from cardboard, plastic, or timber.
  • Look for indicators of flow(breathing, coughing, or movement). If absent, start cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
  • Muscle pain and contractionsAvoid shock. Lay the person down and also, preferably, place the head slightly below the trunk with the legs raised.

After coming into contact with power, the individual should see a medical professional look for internal injuries, even if she or he has no obvious indications or signs.

  • Do not touch the person with your bare hands if she or he is still in contact with the electric current.
  • Do not get near high-voltage cables up until the power is switched off. Stay at least 20 feet away– further if wires are jumping as well as sparking.
  • Do not relocate a person as a result of an electric injury unless the person is an instant threat.

Tip: Do not run electrical extension cords throughout floorings, highways, or on the ground. Suspend them over the ground using properly created stands and/or props.

Why You Should Switch to Solar Energy

Benefits of Solar Energy

As Kenya is redefining how the Country is powered, solar power is becoming an increasingly and most attractive option. This is true for homeowners as well as industries.

The Basics of Solar Power

Solar power is energy that is drawn from the sun and is converted to either electrical or thermal energy (aka, heat). It is the cleanest and most abundant source of energy available and is adaptable for residential, commercial, and industrial uses alike.

There are two primary ways in which solar energy is harnessed.

Photovoltaics (PV) generate electricity directly from sunlight. Solar cells convert the energy into electricity and can be used for most applications. They can power everything from small electronic devices to large machines.

Solar heating and cooling use heat from the sun to provide space or water heating. These solar water heaters can be used to heat a swimming pool, heat the air and water inside of your home, reducing the need for electricity.

6 Reasons Why You Should Switch To Solar Energy

So, you’re wondering why you should switch to solar energy, right? Good question! The following 6 reasons to switch to solar energy will prove why.

1. Free from rising energy costs

One of the clearest benefits of solar panels is the ability to reduce utility prices. Electricity prices in Kenya keep going up and the services are highly unreliable. By investing in a solar energy system now, you can fix your electricity rate and protect against unpredictable increases in electricity costs. If you have fluctuating cash flow, going solar also helps you better forecast and manage your expenses.

2. You can save a lot of money

Electricity is expensive and switching to solar energy systems can save you thousands every month.

3. Better for the environment

With Solar Energy, you can significantly reduce your carbon footprint on the environment.

4. Create jobs and help your local economy

Because solar-related jobs tend to be technical and cannot be outsourced, they are a significant contributor to the local economy. With the continued need for Solar energy, the solar industry is expected to create thousands of jobs in Kenya.

5. Solar Power Improves Grid Security

When there are many of us switching to solar power, we are less likely to experience blackouts. Every household and business in Kenya that has solar modules installed, functions as a small power plant. This, in turn, provides us with greater electricity grid security.

6. Solar Power Is A Free Source of Energy

The sun provides us with more energy than we could ever use, and no one can monopolize the sunlight. The longer you have your solar power system, the more you enjoy the benefits of solar technology.
